Ways to Seek Help
Ways to Seek Help
Play the video to hear what one person has to say about the ways in which you can seek help if you or someone you know are in a trafficking situation.
Hey everyone! Thank you so much for tuning in yesterday. You all asked so many questions that I wanted to share a couple of them with you and share some answers as well.
This first question I got from a handful of people and thought it was super important to address. First off, please know you’re not alone and it’s not your fault if you’re currently in a trafficking situation. You may feel shameful, guilty, or embarrassed and like you want to handle this by yourself, but do not act alone. I cannot stress that enough! Find a trusted adult and tell them what’s going on. If you don’t have a trusted adult to turn to, call the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children Hotline. They deal with these kinds of situations all the time and they can get you help. You are not alone in this!
I got so many different but similar questions related to this topic. If you think your friend, or family member, or anyone close to you is being trafficked report it to a trusted adult. Traffickers can be very dangerous, so you don’t want to put yourself in harm’s way. It’s best to find an adult you trust and tell them of what you suspect, and they will know what to do. But, again, if you don’t have an adult you trust, you can always call the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children Hotline and they can get help for your friend, family member.
This is the last question I wanted to share. And, wow, I got this from a shockingly large number of you and it’s such a good question to ask. Something as simple as your weekly trip to the mall could be the place where you see someone trying to pick up and traffic young girls. You just never know! So, if you saw something that even the smallest part of you thinks could be human trafficking, tell someone! Do not just pass it off as “Oh, I must have been imagining things.” Trust your instincts and tell a trusted adult what you witnessed. They can get it to authorities who can take it from there and determine if it does have to do with trafficking.
Thank you so much to all of you for sending in your questions. This is such an important topic and I’m so glad I’m able to use my platform here to help spread awareness as well as information about human trafficking. I want to wrap up by saying this. If you see something, say something! Even if you’re not sure if it is trafficking, it’s better to be safe and tell a trusted adult so they can make sure the information gets into the hands of the authorities.
At any time during this training, call the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children Hotline at 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678) to speak to someone about anything in this training that concerns you.
